I grew up swimming competitively from age 6 to 18 and then turned my focus to
coaching and teaching while I attended Ball State. From the point I entered college until
3 years ago, I lived a very sedentary lifestyle. That was until I met Heather and Randy
Coddington. They introduced me to road cycling, which turned my life completely
around. That, along with getting back into the water and running with the team that I
coach, I have developed into a fairly decent triathlete.

Up to this point in my career, most of my accomplishments have been centered on
completing events. My first triathlon was back in 2000 and it was my goal to finish. Did I
mention that it was a sprint? From there, I completed my first Olympic length tri, mini
marathon, ½ iron, 5K open water swim, bike across Indiana, marathon and last year my
first Ironman.

This season my focus has changed to not just completing triathlons, but developing my
speed to be more competitive in the overall classification, but more specifically, my
age group. My main goal is to qualify for USAT’s Age Group Nationals. I just missed
qualifying in May and have one more shot on July 18th in Bloomington, Il.
While I have not raced mountain bikes, my son and I seem to share an interest with the
sport. Both are very new, but enjoy spending time together through this common
ground.
