In the mid-nineties, I began racing crosscountry, downhill, dual slalom,
etc. I raced for the thrill and challenge. Toward the end of the century, I
purchased the DINO Series from the local promoter and began to see
the business side of mountainbike racing. I ran the series for a couple
of years before saying farewell and passing on the series to another
promoter.
The change from promoter to competitor has come with its share of
bumps and bruises. The transition although difficult has
definitely been rewarding.
As a competitor again, I began to train seriously. I would see results in
the training and racing then work would call and I’d have to start over
again. In 2003, my training paid off...I won my age group as well as
finishing 2nd sport overall at an epic mountain bike race - The Bald
Eagle Challenge. This set the tone for the 2004 season.
In general, my road bike does not see any action after October of any
given year. However, after seeing what I was capable of I trained
harder and more diligently than ever. The 2004 season started and
ended well. I won the overall in my age group and seventh Overall.
There’s no looking back now!
